Highly interesting ecological sites

The Montserrat Mountains, located 35 minutes away from Barcelona, are, doubtlessly, the most representative of Catalonia for they bring together unique beauty and important cultural and spiritual aspects emblematic to Catalonia. Among its assets, we can choose the millenary Benedictine monastery that hosts the 12th century venerated black virgin, patron Saint of Catalonia, and pilgrimage destination for thousands of devotes each year.  We will also discover small chapels anchored in beautiful places. The geological formations that shape the unique profile of Montserrat are home to a variety of animal species, and common destination for lovers of mountain climbing.

We will make an early visit to the monastery when the atmosphere is still quiet, inside there is the famous image of the black virgin.

From the monastery we will start our hike along a road which will offer us stunning aerial views. Soon after, we will find some of the old chapels used by monks for spiritual retirement.  Along the trail, we are likely to see wild goats on the steep crags. We will follow the route to Sant Jeroni, which, with at 1.224m, is Montserrat’s highest point and will give us a 360º view of the whole massif. We will return along the old Sant Jeroni trail with new views over the slopes of Montserrat until we reach the monastery.

" Montserrat Summit Hike w/ Pere "
5 out of 5 stars
This hike was the opportunity of a lifetime. Such amazing views and with a fantastic guide A few notes: 1. I misread the "4 hours" listed on the booking page, thinking it was 4 hours from being picked up at our hotel to being dropped off. I reality, it was 10 hours and the hike itself was easily 6+ hours. I think they booked our party of 4 with another party that had purchased a 9 hour hike (??? that's what they said anyway). Not the guide's fault but they may want to clear up the booking page 2. This is a pretty tough hike. 2+ hours and ~6 miles of essentially nonstop stair climbing. You should make sure that your party is up for that kind of workout. It pushed us to the limit, but the views once we got to the top were well worth it!! 3. Pere is an amazing guide; really a great person and a joy to hike with
