Exclusive Costa Brava small group tour: SAgar, SAlguer and Palams
Enjoy a full-day small-group tour to Costa Brava, the jewel of the Western Mediterranean and one of National Geographic Top Travel destinations. During the tour a local expert will show you the contrasts of a gorgeous landscape: from the elitist early 20th Century mansions literally towering over the rocky cliffs of S’Agaró and the fancy restaurants of Palamós to the charming and humble fishermen’s settlements on the hidden cove of S’Alguer.
Our first destination, S’Agaró, is an exclusive neighbourhood designed during the 1910’s and 20’s in an elegant yet luxurious blend of art deco and neoclassical styles. Those early wealthy tycoons as well as modern jet-set members equally coveted the amazing villas that pepper the lush hills of S’Agaró. We will marvel at the contrast between luxury and nature as we walk along the Camino de Ronda, a privileged coastal path winding over cliffs and coves.
At midmorning we will enjoy free time at one of the small, secluded beaches that we find along the way, such as Cala del Barco or Cala Pedrosa. A nice bath on crystal-clear waters will get us closer to lunchtime (your own expense).
After the break we will drive up to Palamós, the most important fishing port of Costa Brava, internationally renowned for its delicious red prawns. After a visit to the historical district it will be time to choose among the abundant restaurants that benefit from the proximity and quality of the port: ordering fish in Palamós is a must.
The gentle sun of the early afternoon will be perfect for another trip. This time our destination is far from the elitist architecture of the morning. After passing across the emblematic symbols of ancient Palamós, the Castle of Sant Esteve and the Iberian pre- roman archaeological remains, we will arrive at Cala S’Alguer, a small cove that sheltered ancient fishermen long before tourism altered the physiognomy of the coast. Officially declared Cove of Scenic Interest in 1972, this secluded strip of sand proudly offers a delightful ensemble of whitewashed shanties with bright-coloured doors that bear witness of the noble and hard fishing past of Costa Brava.
Next we will visit the prestigious Botanic Gardens of Cap Roig, venue of the renowned Summer Music Festival, and a gorgeous combination of the most delicate gardening and the wildest nature. Form that vantage point we will admire the bay that opens to the north: the charming fairy-tale like Calella de Palafrugell and the Sant Sebastian Tower, both unforgettable emblems of Costa Brava.
After this relaxing break in the late afternoon we will be ready to return to Barcelona.
