Gaudi's Crypt in the Colonia Guell
Gaudí’s Crypt in the Colonia Güell, a textile colony full of surprises, is a mere 20 minutes from Barcelona.
The Crypt is now used as a church; known for its twisted columns, it served as Gaudí’s laboratory and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. Here is where the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí experimented with many architectural solutions before building the Sagrada Familia.
In addition to contemplating Gaudí’s work, the Colonia Güell offers visitors the chance to explore its streets to see the most significant Modernist constructions of the colony, which are of great architectural interest.
Tourists can also visit the interpretation center, found in the building of the former consumption co-operative, which has a permanent display meant to improve visitors’ understanding of the colony as a whole and the church in particular.
