The Cathedral is easily accessible from Costa Dorada and Barcelona.
The complete guided tour of The Cathedral of Tarragona, the Cloister, the Treasure and the Diocesan Museum also includes a visit of the Roman inside walls and spectacular views from the bell tower. The Cathedral contains important historical memories and beautiful works of art, dedicated to St Thecla, originally raised at the top of the hill of the an ancient roman city.
The Cathedral: Its floor plan is in the form of a Latin cross, with three naves. The head is of Romanesque tradition with half-point arches following the techniques of the Gothic movement. The chapels show art’s stylistic evolution with examples of flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassicism. A splendid rose window fills the middle of the nave.
The Cloister: The columns and the capitals are decorated with biblical, legendary, hagiographic and moral themes. The Museum, founded in 1914 has around six thousand pieces, of which some three hundred and fifty are on display to show visitors a highly diverse chronological, stylistic and artistic discourse of the local art. The visit also includes the Roman temenós – the remains of the inside part of the roman walls and access to the almost 70mts high bell tower with splendid views.
