Oktoberfest: from a wedding to the largest public festival in the world!
Oktoberfest is the world’s most famous and largest beer festival which is held annually in Munich, the capital and the largest city of the German’s state of Bavaria. The 16-day festival attracts over 6 million people from all over the world every year who consume 1.5 million gallons of beer, 200,000 pairs of pork sausage, and 480,000 spit-roasted chickens. Oktoberfest has been celebrated in Munich annually for more than 200 years, since the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese in 1810.
Oktoberfest is a great opportunity to experience traditional Bavarian culture and become a part of a huge celebration. You will have an opportunity to participate in wide range of activities: multiple races, costume contests and famous Bavarian games. Every first Sunday of the Oktoberfest, the very popular traditional costume parade marches through the streets of Munich. You will also be able to listen to German popular and folk music, marches, and polkas. Bavarian beer is one of the most important thing at the Oktoberfest. The festival’s favorites are Paulaner, Spaten-Franziskaner, Löwenbräu, Hacker-Pschorr and Hofbräu. The majority of visitors are traditionally buying a “Mass”, one liter of beer. A lot of Oktoberfest visitors are dressed in traditional Bavarian clothes. For women it is dirndl – a dress with tight bodice and low-cut neckline, and for men it is lederhosen – leather breeches.
Families with kids are welcome to attend Family Rest Zone & Kinderhaus activities: special craft and art projects, pumpkin decorations, an authentic may Pole dance and face painting. Please note that Sunday is a Family Day and with half-price admission, FREE airbrush tattoos for kids from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a lot of additional activities for children of all ages.
Do not miss a great Oktoberfest celebration and enjoy it with family and friends! Festival atmosphere, traditional food and drinks and various activities will make your time in Munich unforgettable.
